My recent Examiner articles
Since restarting my writing attempts as a Santa Ana Fashion Examiner (I’m not actually that close to there), I’ve managed to squeeze out 8 articles in the past 30 days, 7 of these being in this month alone. My Labor Day post was surprisingly popular and put me near the top for a few days among other Examiners in the various categories I’m in.
I’ve managed to focus more on local events and brands thanks in large part to various PR agencies contacting me about events (mostly at South Coast Plaza). I personally don’t have much knowledge of what’s going on outside of my neighborhood (or my house), so my email is real lifeline in this case. My original reporting is focused on the few brands and stores (online or physical) that I like most.
As far as actual jobs go, interviews are few and far between and I have almost given up on finding anything that would fit what I can do and am interested in – which apparently is not very much. Well, I am interested in a lot of things, but I don’t really see how I can actually make any money doing it on my own. The Examiner articles are based on page views and subscribers, so it’s like writing for pennies (over 400, but still not much). I can definitely see why writing for a living is unrealistic, at least outside of a major news network or media outlet.
Anyways, this post is getting depressing so I’m going to stop for now. For awhile, I was getting some pennies from Mage.net links, which was kind of funny. If anything, I’m learning I really don’t need that much to live on, but my daily life is really kind of boring. It may be better going into an office, but I am learning to enjoy my solitude and being an isolated hermit. I’m definitely feeling like a sullen teenager with a bad attitude about everything.
