Going on a long trip can be a lot of fun. You get to see new places, explore new cultures, and maybe even try some new foods. But, one of the downsides to going on a long trip is that you will be leaving your house unattended. The last thing you want to become is your own worst nightmare-a traveler who packs up their car or truck for an extended vacation, only to arrive at their destination to find a filthy house in need of a good deep clean. If you’re not careful, you may find yourself having to spend your first few days at home cleaning and organizing before you can even relax. In order to avoid this fate, here are some tips for cleaning your house before you leave on a long trip.
-
Take out all trash and recycle.
There are many things that you need to do before going on a trip, but one of the most important is taking out all trash. With so much uncertainty when it comes to getting from place to place these days, not forgetting your garbage could result in quite an unpleasant situation for yourself and others around! By taking out the trash and recycling, you’re also getting rid of any potential pests or rodents that may be lurking in your house. This is especially important if there is any food inside your trashcan.
-
Clean the fridge, freezer, and pantry.
Another important task to take care of before leaving for a long trip is cleaning your fridge, freezer, and pantry. This is especially important if you’re going to be gone for an extended period of time. Make sure to take out all expired food and give everything a good scrubbing. It’s also a good idea to vacuum the inside of your fridge and freezer to get rid of any crumbs or dust.
-
Empty all cabinets of food (except for essentials)
One way to make sure that your house is as clean as possible before you leave for a long trip is to empty all of your cabinets of food. This includes the pantry, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom cabinets. If there’s no food in your cabinets, there’s less of a chance for pests and rodents to take up residence. It’s also a good idea to clean the cabinets with a soapy rag before you leave.
-
Vacuum carpets and furniture.
Another way to get your house clean before leaving for a long trip is to vacuum the carpets and furniture. This will help get rid of any dust or dirt that may have built up over time. It’s also a good idea to give the furniture a quick polish before you leave. Carpets often attract a lot of dirt and dust, so it’s important to vacuum them before you leave. If you are unable to clean the carpets before leaving, consider hiring a professional commercial carpet cleaning service to ensure that they are as clean as possible. Remember, if you have any furniture or rugs with stains on them; be sure to use a cleaning solution that won’t damage the furniture.
-
Check the locks on your doors and windows.
Make sure to go over the locks on your doors and windows before you leave. If the door or windows are left open there are high chances of pests or rodents entering your house. They can cause a lot of damage in a short amount of time, so it’s best to take preventative measures and check the locks before you leave. Rodents are known for chewing on electrical wires and furniture, so it’s a good idea to put all of your electronics in cabinets or another place where rodents can’t get to them. Also, closing your curtains before you leave can prevent people from seeing inside your house.
-
Put perishables in the fridge.
If you’re going to be gone for an extended period of time, it’s a good idea to put all perishables in the fridge. This will help to keep them fresh and prevent them from going bad. You may also want to consider freezing some of your food so that you have something to eat when you return. There are many things to consider when preparing for a long trip, but by following these tips, you can be sure that your house will be clean and organized when you get back.
