Girl Develop It! Orange County

Amongst all the MeetUp groups I’ve attended (it’s only been a few), I’ve found a really great one in Girl Develop It Orange County. I’ve been to a couple of their Code and Coffee meet ups, and already started helping them with Social Media! I’m way too proud of this Canvaad I made for the next class offering (Introduction to Programming Concepts) from them. The classes are generally kind of far for me to attend, but I’m really interested in seeing the spaces they use for classes.

Some day, I hope to attend a class – maybe even the intro ones. They actually have a good amount of material online to learn from, but the point is getting the classroom experience with plenty of one on one help. It’s great that they encourage newbies in learning to code and classes are not actually just for girls.

I’m rusty in Javascript since I first learned it in around 2009-2010, and I’m sure a lot has changed since then. I’ve picked up a little new stuff about ES6 through CodeAcademy and FreeCodeCamp, but it’s hardly anything and I still don’t get JSON or AJAX.

Attempting to learn more Web development online has made me realize that I’m still more a designer at heart. I prefer using CSS than Javascript and I’m better at it too! ActionScript was cool back in the day too, but it’s dead with Flash.
