13th Annual DesignerCon Expands To Anaheim With Triple Exhibition Space, International Partnerships & More

It’s been over 5 years since I last attended DesignerCon, most likely because it’s usually in Pasadena. This year, it’s coming to Anaheim and will be 3 days long! DesignerCon has outgrown its previous home in Pasadena and will be bigger and better than ever. Even Tokidoki will be there! Here’s a copy of the press release for this year’s event:

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — DesignerCon (DCON), the annual West Coast art and design convention for fans, collectors and creators of collectible art, vinyl toys and designer apparel, will move to the Anaheim Convention Center for the first time for its 13th edition.

The convention, running from Nov. 16th – 18th, has outgrown its long-time home at the Pasadena Convention Center.   After more than a decade of growth, DCON will now spread across more than 350,000 square feet of vendor exhibition and programming space, thus tripling in size. Last year, more than 7,000 people attended.

Ben Goretsky created DCON to support the growing community of artists, toy designers, illustrators apparel vendors, printing companies and art galleries. “At the end of the day, the show is all about networking and acclaiming art and design and we want more people to be involved in that celebration,” Goretsky said.

This major move to Anaheim will also accommodate many new, world-class partnerships including a special Jurassic Park-themed art show, hosted by Universal Pictures, in honor of the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Other firsts include a full-scale US exhibit from MEDICOM TOY, the famed Japanese toy company, and an exhibit from Japanese artist Lauren Tsai, most famous for “Terrace House.”

Other partnerships include:

  • Funko’s Saturday Morning brand, which will showcase a few surprises, including a collaboration with MEDICOM TOY to create an exclusive be@rbrick.
  • KidRobot will premiere a special DesignerCon Dunny Mini Series exclusive to the convention.
  • Enamel Market will curate a Pin Makers Only area to showcase some of the most talented artists in the medium.

Chevy Metal (featuring Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins, Wiley Hodgden and occasionally Dave Grohl) is confirmed as the headlining band at the Saturday night VIP ticket holder after party to be held in the convention center auditorium.

DesignerCon will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on November 16th – 18th, 2018. The convention center is located at 800 W. Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92802.

About DesignerCon

Founded in 2006 by Ben Goretsky, DesignerCon brings together artists, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in the designer toy / vinyl collectibles market and has grown over the last 12 years to incorporate everything in the design world including apparel, plush, printing, sculpture, designer toys, and both fine and urban art. The steady growth DesignerCon has enjoyed correlates with its popularity in today’s art nerd, geek culture; collectors and designer toy lovers alike wait through the night for new releases, pre-orders for new artist collaboration apparel are sold out within minutes, and artists use the convention as an opportunity to announce exclusive releases and collaborations. www.designercon.com
