I recently closed my eMusic account after issues downloading some music with my monthly allotment/annual subscription… One of these was the New Candys‘ album New Candys as Medicine. I’d read a review of in Echoes and Dust mentioning BRMC. I’d had some issues with my software, and though I was able to get very inexpensive downloads every month – I really struggled to find bands I’d like enough to download.
More recently, I’ve been getting emails about new bands from PR companies (a welcome change from my many junk promotional emails). Desert Ships and Shark Tape were my more recent discoveries from those emails. After listening to several songs by Desert Ships on SoundCloud, I was hooked.
Here’s Desert Ships video for “Skyliner” (which sounds like someone went on a vision quest with Jim Reid):
Shark Tape’s album Marathon just came out and it’s available through BandCamp.
It’s worth a listen for those who like bands like the Replacements and Big Star:
And since I liked their cover art best, Shark Tape gets the featured photo treatment. So this is not so much a review as albums to check out… Also, I recently started reading a manga from 1998 (by a Korean manga-ka) called Faeries Landing, but I may post about that later.
