See You at Designer Con 2013!

I’ve been a faithful attendee of Designer Con the past couple of years and this year will be no different, except that it will be going for 2 days instead of just one! I may only attend one day, but I haven’t decided on that yet. Anyways, I was also asked to provide some pre-show coverage, which just means to me that I should copy over the info they sent, since I personally don’t really know what will be happening there. I can also share a little animated ad that they have on their YouTube channel to tell more about what is happening this year:

Designer Con is where art intersects with geek – it’s for toy collectors, art collectors, those into everything from Star Wars and Star Trek to pop surrealist artists such as Travis Louie and Kathie Olivas. It’s also a perfect event for pre-Xmas gift recommendations.

Here’s a link to a press release with focus on a Star Wars inspired group art show and toy drive for the LAFD.

You’ll find the vendor list here – it’s ginormous!
The first event blast from a couple of months back – and an announcement about the on-site installation of the deck of the Starship Enterprise!

Starship Enterprise

Star Trek fans rejoice! New Starship, a nonprofit California based foundation, is restoring the Paramount created Enterprise-D Bridge and bringing it to the show! Come take your pictures on the bridge and help the foundation by donating for a shirt or a membership. Find out more about the bridge and foundation at NewStarship.com.

Designer Con was founded in 2006 under the name Vinyl Toy Network. The show was created to bring together artists, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in the vinyl toy/collectible figures market. The first show was in an 1,100 sq. ft. meeting room at the Pasadena Convention Center and has now grown into a 50,000 sq. ft. hall with over 150 vendors, art & custom shows, live demonstrations, and much more. Designer Con now incorporates everything in the world of design, including apparel, plush, printing, sculpture, designer toys, and art ranging from fine to urban. The show was founded and still run by companies who are also vendors which is why we strive to provide a fun, safe, comfortable environment for fans, artists, and vendors to meet!
One of the most exciting things about this year’s Designer Con is that it’s two days! That means twice the fun with a whole weekend to meet your favorite artists, check out live presentations, and find interesting new toys and goodies.
I found this part of the event pretty cool!

What does a toy distributor do with damaged toys? Turns them into a fundraiser of course!

All year DKE Toys puts broken toys under the stairs in the DKE warehouse in what has become known as “The Graveyard.” At Designer Con 2009 DKE Toys had their first ever Graveyard Sale to incredible results. Now DKE is back with more fun stuff this year!

In addition visit the DKE Garage Sale where DKE will offer all kinds of action figures, new and loose from Star Wars, Transformers, GI Joe, Power Rangers and more. Dig through books, magazines, posters and other fun knick-knacks. Who knows what you will find!
