Filter Magazine’s annual Culture Collide Block Party gets better every year, not necessarily because the bands are better – they are generally pretty good (I saw CSS, Datarock, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Avi Buffalo). It seems there is more to do than just watch bands, like take your photo in a Corolla, get your fortune told by Zoltar, and play a Guess that Song game in a Yaris.
The photo booth has been made even more advanced by their special technology allowing them to combine 2 images into a lenticular photo – an awesome and unique souvenir made better by being free. Giveaways are everywhere like cool T-shirts, PS3 Color changing Bracelets, and drawings to win iPads and Fender guitars.
It’s a pretty relaxed environment as well that really allows for a diverse group of people – from locals, hipsters, college kids, and more. There’s also a good selection of food trucks and drink stands at reasonable prices (considering you can’t bring in outside food). It was crowded at times, but still much easier to get around than Sunset Junction Street Fair and nicer than FYF. The side games really made it a fun event since one friend of mine was able to win an iPad2.
Here are some of my photos of the bands that played and a link to the rest of my photos on Flickr:
