As a night owl who’s had insomnia for as long as I can remember, I’m far from an expert on sleep. I’ve bought and tried many types of sheets for someone so sleep deprived. After a long blogging hiatus (I was catching up on TV), I leapt at the chance to try GhostBed Luxury Sheets set – a product of GhostBed by Nature’s Sleep, which makes a mattress that Consumer Reports rated very good or excellent in every category.
These days, getting a good night’s sleep is more elusive and important to me than ever. In my continuous search for better sleep, I’ve tried bamboo sheets, all kinds of pillows, silk pillowcases, memory foam mattress toppers, down alternative comforters and a weighted blanket. They’ve helped to varying degrees, but not enough to improve my bad sleeping habits (particularly reducing screen time before bed) or increase my actual amount of sleep.
In my experience, I’ve found that higher thread count for cotton sheets does little to improve their softness and comfort. I was using bamboo rayon sheets because I’d read about their antibacterial quality and softness, but they lacked the coolness and breathability of GhostBed Luxury Sheets. I tried the full sized gray sheets (white seems to require more washing), which perfectly matched my recently purchased platinum Down Alternative comforter from Target.
Right out of the box, GhostBed Sheets were shiny, smooth and cool to touch, with more of a light crisp feel. And the materials make for a world of difference when you’re trying to sleep. The Supima cotton and Tencel fiber blend of the GhostBed Luxury sheets makes them breathable and light-weight! Night sweats are real, which is why the right material is so important in choosing bed sheets.
In my enthusiasm to try these new sheets, I put them on my mattress before washing them. I don’t recommend this since there is a strong and distinct smell that’s probably not good for you. Even with the smell, I managed to sleep better than I have in awhile. The first night I used them was Saturday, June 15th after a long day of cleaning up around the house and watching some shows on TV/Netflix. I managed to get almost a full 8 hours of sleep! Normally, I’m lucky if I get 6.
The next night, I got just under 7 hours and even squeezed in a 2 hour nap – a nice thing to do on Monday afternoon if you can. Woke up a bit earlier the next morning due to accidental alarms, so I washed and dried the sheets which removed the smell (and the shiny sheen) and they were still looking great. Trust me, you really won’t miss that brand new sheet smell. These sheets seem tough in addition to being luxurious. As it’s gotten a little warmer lately, these sheets are ideal for hot summer nights.
Sometimes, I end up awake until 3am trying to fall asleep and then I’m up at 7:15am exhausted! I have a really bad screen time habit before bed, which I know is my own fault (and the internet, of course). I’ve managed to get to bed between 1-2am on most nights during the past two weeks of trying these sheets, which is pretty good for me. I’ve felt pretty well rested even on my more restless nights. Instead of tossing and turning for half an hour, I actually fall asleep soon after I put the phone away!
Depending on your budget, the price might seem high – the full sized sheet set is $165. That’s about $100 more than the bamboo sheets, but I honestly believe feeling well rested is worth it. Since most people buy luxury sheets for larger beds, it’s $185 for Queen and $235 for King sized sets. This sheet set will work great on almost any mattress, but it’s ideal to pair it with any GhostBed mattress – which is also one of the best mattresses for back pain!

Here’s an in-depth description of the materials from their website:
Supima cotton is one of the finest quality grown cotton in the US. Made using longer, smoother, and cleaner yarn, the result is a softer and more plush feel. Additionally, Supima premium cotton is also more durable, able to withstand washing year after year and maintains its original shape, feel and comfort.
I’m thinking this will be a good thing in the long run for these sheets!
Tencel fibers are revolutionary. With a plant based origin, the fiber is extracted using an extremely eco-friendly, closed-loop system. Tencel fibers have a whole host of outstanding properties which include temperature regulation, superior moisture absorption, extreme breathability, and bacteria and allergen resistance.
