Macatier – The Outside World EP

I was pretty excited when I first heard this ‘upbeat acoustic’ EP by a young London based musician Dan Brown, who goes by Macatier when performing. The single “Dopamine” reminded me of a stripped down Wonder Stuff (just acoustic guitars, with a slight snarl on the vocals). “Collision” is a slightly slower song with an anthemic feel and some interesting guitar work.

I’m not sure if “Blood Red Shoes” refers to the band, but I found the open space between the music pretty interesting as well as the build up to the chorus.  “Radio Silence” is a quieter song that maintains the listener’s interest with just acoustic guitar.  Macatier manages to create a lot of catchy pop songs with just an acoustic guitar and his distinctly British vocals.

If you happen to be in London, check him out live in the next few days/months:

Instant Filter: “A very promising upcoming talent…enjoy the freshness, intensity and sheer rawness of his work”

Headphones & Downloads: “Comparisons can be drawn between his music and some of Frank Turner’s early stuff…there’s the same kind of combination of raw lyrics and emotion in the voice, together with great guitar playing and catchy chord sequences.”
